Conservative YouTuber and commentator Ko Sung-guk has been selected as the host of KBS1 radio's current affair program. The KBS labor union claimed that Ko was not suitable as a host and that the selection was unilateral.

KBS announced on May 16 that the host of the weekday morning program will change from KBS reporter Jeon Jong-cheol to Ko, who will start hosting the show from the 20th of this month.

The broadcast company introduced Ko, saying, "He has appeared as a panel on various current affairs programs and has done sharp and in-depth analysis on political issues," adding, "He is evaluated as having gained recognition and popularity by running a YouTube channel with more than 1 million subscribers."

The KBS headquarters of the National Union of Media Workers (NUMW) issued a statement on the same day, saying, “Is the popularity of Ko conducive to the fairness and competitiveness of KBS programs?” and “Ko was selected as a radio host in 2013 and 2014 but was dropped out one after another due to issues with his qualifications, including political bias.”

On his YouTube channel, Ko has made comments in defense of President Yoon Suk-yeol. “Has there ever been a truly liberal government during the conservative regimes? I think the Yoon government is the first to bring the liberal philosophy to the forefront,” he said.

Ko's channel has a number of contents under the titles of defending Yoon, such as "President Yoon did a great job at the press conference."

The KBS headquarters said, “Park Jin-hyun, the head of current affairs production, who led the selection of the host, unilaterally decided on Ko as the host and then listened to the opinions of the production team,” adding, “It is similar to the controversy over the selection of the host of TV program ‘The Day, History Journal.’ How can the issue of selecting a host be raised simultaneously?”
