Pianist Paik Kun-woo (79) has completed his Mozart trilogy project, which he recorded for the first time in 68 years of his musical career.
Universal Music released the last album of Paik’s Mozart trilogy project, titled “Mozart Piano Works 3,” on March 5. The album centers on “Fantasia in C minor,” which is the most dramatic and deeply emotional among Mozart’s piano works, and includes “Six German Dances” and “Piano Sonata No. 14.” Paik released his first Mozart album in May last year and his second in November. For all three Mozart albums, he selected covers of the albums drawn by an elementary school student after holding a contest.
Korean pianist Paik is considered one of the world-renowned pianists. He is also known to the public for his “movie-like love” with actress Yoon Jung-hee, who passed away in 2023. He has played works of Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert, and others, but this was his first Mozart recording.
“My goal used to be to play Mozart’s works ‘well,’ but now I want to deliver the music itself,” Paik told reporters last year. The pianist will also continue his recital tour from March to October.
