“‘Axis’ means the central line,” K-pop girl group aespa explained on the final night of their three-day concert run in Seoul. “We prepared this show to find our axis together with MY (aespa's fandom). Since we wanted to gift this concert to MY, we hope our gift has reached the center of your hearts.”
From August 29 to 31, the four-member group filled KSPO Dome in Seoul’s Olympic Park with their second solo concert, “SYNK : aeXIS LINE.” The title “aeXIS” combines the English word “axis” with the group’s name, symbolizing aespa’s vision of finding their core alongside fans.
True to their reputation for hard-hitting, metallic “iron-flavored” sounds, aespa’s stage was charged with intensity from the start. Dressed in striking red outfits, the members descended on elevated lifts and opened with “Armageddon,” the lead track from their first studio album. The show featured a live band, amplifying the power of their rock-infused sound.
Each member also took the spotlight with solo stages. Karina, dressed in a school uniform paired with track pants, delivered a fierce performance of “Good Stuff,” earning explosive cheers for her dynamic dance. Ningning followed with “Ketchup and Lemonade,” blending dreamy vibes, her smooth vocals, and languid choreography.
Giselle presented “Tornado,” saying, “I’ve loved the ocean since I was very young. I recently visited Okinawa for a short trip, and that inspired this song.” Winter took to the stage with the heartfelt ballad “Blue,” telling fans, “We all have times when it’s hard to move forward. I hope this song brings you a bit of comfort.”
Fans also got a sneak peek at tracks from the group’s sixth mini album, “Rich Man,” set for release on September 5. The title track “Rich Man” was performed on a stage decorated with a pyramid of cash bundles, enhancing the song’s concept.
In the concert’s climax, aespa rolled out megahits including “Next Level,” “Supernova,” and “Whiplash.” The audience roared along with chants of “Bang! Bang! Bang!” and “Oh! Ae!” as the girls powered through intricate choreography, all while holding handheld microphones. The setlist underscored aespa’s stature as a top-tier K-pop act just four years after their debut in 2020.
Over the three nights, aespa sold out all 30,000 seats, including restricted-view sections. As the show drew to a close, the members expressed their gratitude. Winter told the crowd, “Seeing your smiling faces makes me so happy. I think I’ll have a wonderful dream tonight.”
Karina added, “Without you, we wouldn’t have a reason to prepare stages like this. Thank you for giving us meaning. We’ll keep striving to be artists who know how to be grateful.”
With the Seoul concerts complete, aespa will kick off their Asia arena tour in Fukuoka next month. Their new mini album “Rich Man” drops at 1 p.m. on September 5.
