People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok attends a general meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly on the 2nd. Kwon Do-hyun
On the 3rd, marking the first anniversary of the Dec. 3 illegal martial law, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said, "Emergency martial law was martial law to confront the legislature's tyranny."
He said on Facebook that day, "The impeachment that followed the imposition of martial law produced successive tragedies in Korean politics and brought disappointment and confusion to the public and party members. The People Power Party, which failed to unite as one and fight properly, is not free from that responsibility either."
Referring to the court's pre-dawn dismissal of an arrest warrant for lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho, he said, "Now the year of darkness is passing," and, "The drive to brand it as an insurrection that began on December 3, 204 came to an end on December 3, 2025."
He said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is a 'three-abandonment government' that has given up on livelihoods, the economy, and the people, and a 'three-no government' of disregarding trials, incapacitating the judiciary, and chaotic misrule," adding, "When a government tramples the people, goes against history, and crosses the Constitution's 'red line,' the people and the opposition must rise up and pull out a 'red card.' That is the judgment to be rendered in next year's local elections."
He said, "The People Power Party rejects the formalization of innovation. Innovation is not a declaration but an action," adding, "This is a time when unity, not division, is desperately needed."
He said, "The reason conservative politics is shunned is not because it has lost its core values but because it has failed to convey, in language suited to the times, the true values that conservatism has upheld. I will begin by reflecting myself," adding, "Instead of the language of Yeouido, we will pursue politics that communicates in the people's language, reaches out sincerely to earn the people's trust, and starts a new conservative politics recognized by the people."
He said, "In six months we will surely deliver judgment on the Democratic Party and achieve a rebuilding of conservatism," adding, "With bold hope, I will stride forward step by step together with the people and party members."
