Rep. Park Ji-won of the Democratic Party of Korea said of the People Power Party lawmakers who, on the 3rd, the first anniversary of the illegal 12·3 martial law, issued a public apology over the martial law and declared an intent to cut ties with former President Yoon Suk-yeol that “History and the people will remember.”
According to political circles on the 4th, Park wrote on Facebook the previous day, “On the first anniversary of the 12·3 martial law, Leader Jang Dong-hyeok and others repeatedly engage in words and deeds that betray the people and history, but I applaud the 25 People Power Party lawmakers whose consciences are alive.”
He said, “History and the people will remember the 25 lawmakers,” and mentioned their names.
Earlier, 25 People Power Party lawmakers, mostly first· and second-term members, held a press conference the previous day and, along with a public apology, announced their intention to sever ties with former President Yoon. In their apology, they said, “The 12·3 emergency martial law was an anti-constitutional·anti-democratic act that denied and trampled the Republic of Korea’s liberal democracy, achieved through the blood and sweat of our people.”
They said, “We once again bow our heads before the people for failing to prevent the emergency martial law in advance and causing great pain and confusion as members of the then-ruling party,” and added, “We respect the Constitutional Court’s decision that judged the emergency martial law unconstitutional·unlawful.” They also said, “We make it clear that we will politically sever ties with the forces that led the emergency martial law, including former President Yoon Suk-yeol.”
They said, “Now, based on reflection and introspection on the past, and a courageous break, we will move toward a new future,” adding, “Through bone-deep change and innovation, we will be reborn as a party that can once again give hope to the people.”
A total of 25 People Power Party lawmakers put their names to the apology, including Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo (fourth term), Reps. Kim Sung-won·Song Seok-jun·Shin Sung-beom (third term), Reps. Kwon Young-jin·Kim Hyeong-dong·Park Jeong-ha·Bae Jun-young·Seo Beom-soo·Eom Tae-young·Lee Seong-kwon·Cho Eun-hee·Choi Hyeong-du (second term), Reps. Kim Yong-tae·Kim Jae-seop·Park Jeong-hoon·Ahn Sang-hoon·Woo Jae-jun·Lee Sang-hwi·Jeong Yeon-uk (first term), and proportional representatives Ko Dong-jin·Kim Geon·Kim So-hee·Yoo Yong-won·Jin Jong-oh.
