On the 7th, the Presidential Office said regarding efforts to promote peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula that it is “not directly considering South Korea-U.S. joint exercises (adjustment) as a card.”
At the ‘Six-Month Performance Meeting of the Lee Jae-myung administration’ held that day at the Yongsan Presidential Office, National Security Advisor Wi Sung-lak, when asked ‘You said you would put the Korean Peninsula peace process into full swing; will you propose to the United States the need to reduce the South Korea-U.S. joint exercises?’ said, “We will consider various options,” and made the above remark.
Wi said, “While preparing the (performance) report, we found many achievements in external conditions, but relatively few at the level of inter-Korean relations,” and added, “Based on the results to date, next year we will look at inter-Korean (relations) and pursue peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.”
