A photo taken on the day President Lee Jae-myung delivered his election victory speech was selected by the U.S. newsweekly Time as one of ‘100 Photos of 2025’.
Among the 100 photos unveiled on the Time website on the 14th (local time) was an image capturing President Lee on June 4, as the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate, moments before addressing supporters ahead of the final election results.
It was the day after the presidential vote, and in a pre-dawn speech in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, President Lee effectively delivered a speech accepting the presidency, saying, “I will overcome the insurrection, the first mission you have entrusted to me.”
A photo of the leaders of North Korea, China, and Russia attending the September 3 military parade marking the 80th Victory Day in China was also among the 100. At the time, North Korea State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un drew attention by standing on the Tiananmen rostrum in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It was the first time since the Cold War that the leaders of North Korea, China, and Russia had gathered together in one place. Chairman Kim was assessed as attempting to build an image of a ‘normal state’ while making his multilateral diplomatic debut through his attendance at the parade in China.
