Comedienne Park Na-rae, who had announced a halt to broadcasting activities amid allegations of ‘gapjil’ and illegal medical practices, reiterated on the 16th via a video statement that she will suspend activities.
In the video released that day on the YouTube channel ‘Baek Eun-young's Golden Time’, Park Na-rae said, “I do not want this to lead to someone else getting hurt or to unnecessary disputes,” and added, “For the time being, I wish to stop all activities and take time to focus on resolving this matter.”
More than the initial expos by her former managers about ‘gapjil’, the allegation that Park Na-rae received illegal medical procedures through a so-called ‘injection aunt’ has been spreading, with suspicions shifting to other entertainers. In response, Park Na-rae refrained from specifics and said she would pursue legal procedures.
Park Na-rae said, “Regarding the matters currently raised, there are aspects that require calmly verifying the facts, so legal procedures are underway.” She continued, “In that process, I will refrain from any further public remarks or explanations. I believe this is not an issue of personal feelings or relationships, but one that must be objectively confirmed through official procedures.”
She went on, “Many things are being said, but it is not my wish for someone else to be hurt or for this to spread into unnecessary disputes.”
Lastly, Park Na-rae said, “I will reflect on my responsibilities and conduct in my position,” and added, “I am grateful to the many people who have cared for me. To avoid creating further controversy, I will not make related comments after this video,” before bowing in apology.
On the 4th, Park Na-rae became embroiled in a ‘gapjil’ controversy following revelations by former managers. Two of her former managers claimed that Park Na-rae forced drinking gatherings and used abusive language, constituting ‘workplace harassment’. They filed criminal complaints with police accusing her of special injury, defamation, and violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation).
Park Na-rae counterfiled on the 6th, accusing the managers of extortion, stating that they “demanded money”, and on the 8th announced a suspension of broadcasting activities through social networking services (SNS). She stepped down from programs including the MBC variety show <I Live Alone>, <Save Me! Holmes>, and the tvN program <Amazing Saturday - DoReMi Market>.
Meanwhile, additional allegations have spread that Park Na-rae received illegal medical services and proxy prescriptions, including IV injections, from the so-called ‘injection aunt’ Ms. A. In response, police launched an investigation on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act and other offenses.
