In connection with an injury incident caused by a water gun at a water festival venue in Ansan, Gyeonggi, last summer, organizers and event company officials have been referred to prosecutors.
According to the Ansan Danwon Police Station on the 6th, police recently referred four people to prosecutors with a recommendation to indict on charges of occupational negligence causing injury: two officials from the water festival service contractor and two employees of the Ansan Cultural Foundation.
They are accused of neglecting safety measures in connection with the water-gun injury that occurred on the stage at the ‘Ansan Summer Festa 2025 Water Festival Yeoreumio’ held by the Ansan Cultural Foundation on August 15 last year at Ansan Culture Square and along Gwangdeok-daero.
At the time, college student A, who was singing on stage, suffered serious injuries, including lacerations to the face and back of the hand, after being hit by a high-pressure stream from a water gun fired by B. The accident occurred as B moved while firing a water gun placed on the stage toward the audience.
The victim side filed a complaint against those involved, stating, “Neither the city nor the foundation is trying to take responsibility,” and, “We will determine through a police investigation how the accident occurred and who is responsible.”
After investigating the suitability of the equipment and whether the safety systems were operating, police concluded there was culpability on the part of the event company and the organizer, the Ansan Cultural Foundation.
