A leak occurred in a large water main that supplies tap water to the Songpa area of Seoul, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government is carrying out repair work.
According to the Seoul Arisu Headquarters on the 10th, around 1 p.m. that day, a leak occurred in a 2200㎜-diameter pipeline at the Gwangam Arisu Water Purification Center near 120-12, Gamil-dong, Hanam, Gyeonggi Province. The water main supplies tap water to the Songpa area.
To prepare for road icing, the city spread calcium chloride and implemented emergency safety measures that include traffic management.
The city began excavation at 8 p.m. that day, and to minimize inconvenience to residents, is conducting full-scale repair work during late-night hours when water use is low. Completion is expected around 8 a.m. on the 11th.
The city requested in advance that large water consumers such as apartment complexes fill their storage tanks. It is also maintaining an emergency support posture to promptly provide five water tankers and 120,000 bottles of bottled Arisu in case of inconvenience for residents.
The city noted that turbid water may appear temporarily after the repair and asked residents in Songpa to let tap water run sufficiently before use. Related information was also provided in advance to residents in the area by text message.
Throughout the repair process, the city plans to use 20 automatic water quality meters to remotely monitor in real time for any water quality abnormalities across Songpa District.
For inquiries such as water supply inconveniences, call Dasan Call Foundation (☎ 120) or the Gangdong Waterworks Office (☎ 02-3146-5290~2).
Earlier, around 9 a.m. that day, a water main leak also occurred at Dunchon Intersection near Olympic Park Station in Gangdong District.
This was found to be due to a roughly 30㎝ crack caused by aging of the water main and vibration from passing vehicles. The Arisu Headquarters is conducting repairs without a water outage, and the work is expected to be completed during the night.
