An email threatening to blow up Busan Station was sent, prompting police and fire crews to rush to the scene. No actual explosives were found, and police began tracking down the sender.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 11th that at 6:37 p.m. on the 10th, a threatening email to blow up Busan Station was received via the National Fire Agency. At the request of the fire authorities, police dispatched about 60 personnel, including a police special operations unit, to the scene to conduct a search. No actual explosives were found, and police concluded the search and stood down at around 9:15 p.m. the same day.
Police believe charges such as public intimidation could apply and are tracking the sender of the email. A police official said, “We are also reviewing a civil claim for damages.”
Bomb threats have recently continued across the country. Last year, a post threatening to blow up Kakao Pangyo headquarters and Naver, among others, was posted to the Kakao customer service center. On the 6th, a post threatening to blow up the National Pension Service in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, appeared on an online community, prompting police and fire crews to make an emergency response.
