On the 11th, the People Power Party decided to change its party name for the first time in about five and a half years ahead of the June 3 local elections.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 12th, People Power Party Secretary General Jeong Hee-yong said “We collected opinions from 774,000 responsible party members (on the revision of the party name)” and “The response rate was 25.24%, and of these, 133,000 people, 68.19%, expressed support for revising the party name”.
The secretary general stated “We also received roughly 18,000 suggestions for a new party name” and “Through a survey of participation by all responsible members, we confirmed the desire of members for a winning change and a new beginning through the renaming”.
He said “The People Power Party intends to officially begin the process of revising the party name” and “We plan to hold a public contest for a new party name in which all citizens can participate, and after expert review, we intend to finalize the renaming in February”.
If the change of the party name is confirmed next month, the People Power Party signboard that went up in early September 2020 will disappear into history after about five years and five months.
