BTS will hold ‘BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG (Arirang)’ at 8 p.m. on the 21st of next month at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, unveiling the new tracks, including the title song, for the first time, BigHit Music announced on the 3rd. The concert will be broadcast live via the online video service (OTT) Netflix.
BigHit Music stated on the 3rd, “This event has been arranged to commemorate the release of the album of the same name.” It continued, “This is the first time an artist has held a solo concert at Gwanghwamun Square,” adding, “Through this stage, BTS will set another milestone in the history of Korean culture.”
Regarding the selection of Gwanghwamun Square as the comeback concert venue, BigHit Music said, “The new album ‘ARIRANG’ is a record that contains the starting point and identity of BTS, and the emotions they wish to convey now,” and added, “Because the word ‘Arirang’ carries a symbolic meaning, we wanted to present the first performance in a space that represents Korea.”
It has been about five and a half years since BTS held a performance in central Seoul. In 2020, as part of the special weekly project ‘BTS Week’ on the NBC TV program ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ BTS presented performances at Geunjeongjeon Hall and Gyeonghoeru Pavilion in Gyeongbokgung Palace.
This comeback commemorative concert will be broadcast live worldwide on Netflix. BigHit Music said this is the first time a major event held in Korea will be broadcast live to about 190 countries on Netflix.
BTS will release its fifth full-length album, ‘ARIRANG,’ at 1 p.m. on the 20th of next month, a day before the concert. It is the first new release in about three years and nine months. The album includes 14 tracks in total and captures universal emotions such as the identity of the team, longing, and deep love.
On the 27th of next month, a documentary film covering the making of the new album, ‘BTS: The Return,’ will be released exclusively on Netflix. BigHit Music said the documentary captures the concerns BTS experienced during their music-making process and the process through which the BTS of today was formed.
