With the number of Coupang users slowing following the personal data leak, new users of Naver Plus Store surged.
According to Mobile Index of data tech company IGAWorks on the 4th, Coupang app installs in January totaled 467,641. That is about 60,000 fewer than December last year (526,834). Some interpret this as a growing move to leave Coupang after the large-scale data breach at the end of last year sparked controversy.
Some domestic e-commerce rivals competing with Coupang saw large increases in app installs.
Naver Plus Store logged 935,507 new installs, up by more than 147,000 from the previous month. This is the highest monthly figure since June last year.
In December last year, Naver Plus Store also recorded 788,119 installs, an increase of 185,000 from the previous month. Installs have risen by more than 150,000 month-on-month for two consecutive months.
11st recorded 153,291 installs, more than the average for last year, but somewhat lower than the previous month (205,924).
Amid domestic e-commerce firms competing on fast delivery and partnership discounts in the wake of the Coupang incident, Naver Plus Store appears to be a major beneficiary.
Major China-based e-commerce platforms showed mixed results. AliExpress recorded 332,612 installs, up by about 28,000 from the previous month, while Temu's app installs fell by about 98,000 to 631,911. Shein reached 198,733, up by around 51,000 from the previous month.
