Norovirus is spreading at the 2026 Milan·Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. Following the Finnish women’s ice hockey national team, infections have also occurred on the Swiss women’s ice hockey national team.
The Swiss Olympic Committee said on the 7th that one player on the women’s ice hockey team tested positive for norovirus and was placed in isolation, and therefore did not attend the opening ceremony. Earlier, on the Finnish women’s ice hockey team, 13 players since the 3rd either tested positive for norovirus or reported abdominal pain and were isolated.
As a result, Finland was unable to play its Group A preliminary-round game against Canada that was to be held on the 6th, and the match was postponed to the 12th.
The Finnish Olympic Committee said, “The players are gradually recovering,” adding, “The number of players in isolation has decreased to nine, and we hope to be able to play the game against the United States on the 8th as normal.”
