Near the Dotonbori ‘Glico’ sign, a landmark of Osaka, Japan, three teenagers were stabbed, leaving one dead and two injured. The area is a popular tourist destination frequently visited by Koreans.
According to local media including the Asahi Shimbun on the 16th, around midnight the previous day a report that a person had been stabbed was filed with police at the first-floor entrance of a building on Shinsaibashisuji Street in Osaka. Responding officers found three 17-year-old boys with stab wounds at the scene and transported them to a hospital, where one ultimately died.
That morning, police apprehended a 21-year-old male suspect on a road approximately 1.5㎞ from the scene and urgently arrested him on suspicion of murder and other charges. The man is reported to have known the three stabbed teenagers, as he regularly moved around the Dotonbori area.
The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that, in police questioning, the man stated he intended only to threaten and had no intention of causing death. Police are investigating the precise motive and circumstances.
The area around the Glico sign where the incident occurred is famous for its advertisement depicting a ‘running man’.
