On the 1st, the audience count for the film <The Man Who Lives With the King> by director Jang Hang-Jun surpassed 8 million. Despite a slump at the box office, it crossed the 8 million mark on the 26th day since its release. As cumulative admissions exceeded 8 million midway through the holiday period that spans the weekend and the substitute holiday for Independence Movement Day, there is growing expectation that a ‘ten-million-viewer film’ is close.
According to the integrated computer network for movie theater admissions, the film recorded 8,006,300 cumulative admissions on the morning of this 26th day after release. <The Man Who Lives With the King> tells the story of the young King Danjong, exiled in 1457 to Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol County, Gangwon, and the village head Eom Heung-Do.
Director Jang Hang-Jun said, “Eight million viewers have watched the film, and I think not only I but also the staff and actors all feel it is a number we have never imagined,” adding, “Everyone is spending each day with gratitude.” Yoo Hae-Jin, who plays Eom Heung-Do, the head of Gwangcheongol, the place where Danjong was exiled, said, “Such great, unexpected love, I sincerely thank you,” and Park Ji-Hoon, who plays Danjong, also said, “Truly grateful for 8 million.”
Yoo Ji-Tae, who plays Han Myeong-Hoe, said, “I already feel successful as an actor simply for having been part of an 8-million-viewer film in my life.” Jeon Mi-Do, who plays Maehwa, the court lady who protects Danjong, said, “My sincere thanks to everyone who shared in grieving over the story of Eom Heung-Do and Danjong.”
