Melania Trump, wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, presided over a meeting of the UN Security Council (Security Council) with the issue of children in conflict zones on the agenda. This came after the United States and Israel attacked an elementary school in Iran, leaving 165 dead.
According to AFP on the 2nd (local time), Melania attended the Security Council meeting held at UN Headquarters in New York as the representative of the United States, the council president, and led the discussion under the theme ‘Children in conflict, technology, and education’.
In her opening remarks, she said, “The United States stands on the side of every child in the world” and “I hope that peace will soon be yours.” She continued, “The path to peace depends on us acting responsibly to empower our children through education and technology.”
It was the first time the spouse of a sitting head of state has chaired an official Security Council meeting. The schedule for this meeting was announced on the 26th of last month, before the United States airstrike on Iran.

Melania did not directly mention the United States strike on Iran. However, honoring fallen U.S. service members, she said, “To the families who lost heroes who gave their lives for freedom, their courage and dedication will be remembered forever.”
At a brief press availability held before the meeting, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran envoy to the UN, criticized the United States for holding a meeting on child protection while not stopping the airstrikes, calling it “very shameful and hypocritical.” He said, “For the United States, ‘child protection’ and ‘maintenance of international peace and security’ are clearly very different from what the UN Charter prescribes.”
On the 28th of last month, when airstrikes by the United States and Israel began, an elementary school in the Minab area of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran was bombed, leaving 165 dead and 96 injured.
