Prosecutors have indicted a Brazilian woman accused of stalking BTS member Jungkook (legal name Jeon Jeong-guk).
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors Office announced on the 3rd that on the 27th of last month it had indicted in detention a woman in her thirties, Ms. A, on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act. Ms. A had also faced a charge of attempted residential intrusion, but prosecutors cleared her of that count for insufficient evidence.
From December 7 last year to January 4, on 23 occasions in total, Ms. A allegedly stalked Mr. Jeon and intruded into his home, including by pressing the front-door doorbell of his residence hundreds of times. Despite receiving an ‘emergency temporary measure’ from police over the stalking allegation in December last year, she reportedly continued to visit the home of Mr. Jeon. An emergency temporary measure is imposed by a judicial police officer upon a report when there is concern that stalking may occur continuously and repeatedly, and it includes measures such as prohibiting approach within 100 meters and banning contact.
The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul arrested Ms. A in the act on December 13 last year on suspicion of entering the home of Mr. Jeon and questioned her. Nevertheless, she reportedly went to his home again in January this year.
Prosecutors subsequently obtained a detention warrant and took Ms. A into custody for investigation on the 13th of last month. During the prosecution inquiry, she reportedly stated, ‘I largely acknowledge the facts, but my actions were only out of love for Jungkook and I had no intent to cause harm,’ thereby denying the allegations.
