U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 9th (local time) that the U.S.-Israel war with Iran would end “fairly quickly.”
At a Republican event held at the Doral resort in Florida that day, after listing the destruction of Iran’s missiles and drone manufacturing facilities as accomplishments of the war against Iran that began on the 28th of last month, he said, “When this (war) is over, the world will be much safer.”
He said, “We have eliminated about 80% of their (Iran’s) missile bases and launchers,” adding, “Their missile capability has been completely wiped out. Drones have been shot down as well. And we are striking Iran’s drone production facilities.”
Trump described this war as “a journey to remove a few people (Iran’s leadership),” adding that it “will be a short journey.”
Trump said, “Iran was regarded as a great power, but we crushed them completely,” and claimed, “Their terror leaders have already disappeared, or they are counting down to disappearing soon.”
Regarding Iran having selected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the deceased Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as his successor, Trump said he was “disappointed,” adding, “because I think that choice will ultimately intensify the same problems for Iran.”
He also claimed, “We removed Iran’s leadership twice, maybe three times,” adding, “We want to intervene. We don’t want to be bogged down by this situation five or ten years from now.”
Trump warned, “We will not tolerate a terror regime holding the world hostage and attempting to cut off international oil supplies,” adding, “If Iran attempts that, it will be hit much harder.”
On the surge in international oil prices, he said, “In the long term, oil supplies will be far more secure with no threats such as Iranian ships, drones, missiles, or nuclear weapons,” adding, “We will end all of these threats at once, and as a result, oil and gas prices for American households will go down.”
However, Trump also indicated it was not yet the time to mention an ‘exit’ from the war, saying, “We have already won in many respects, but we have not won enough.”
He said, “We will not ease up until the enemy is completely and decisively defeated.”
