Actor Lee Jae-ryong (62), who is accused of driving while intoxicated and fleeing after hitting a median barrier (DUI·failure to take necessary measures after an accident, etc.), has appeared before police.
According to Kyunghyang Shinmun reporting on the 10th, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station has summoned Lee as a suspect and has been questioning him from around 2 p.m. that day. It was reported that his police questioning had been scheduled for around 3 p.m., but he appeared roughly an hour early to avoid the press.
He is suspected of having crashed into a median barrier near Cheongdam Station in Gangnam District, Seoul, at around 11 p.m. on the 6th, then fleeing. At the time, he left the scene after the crash and was apprehended about three hours later at the home of an acquaintance. At the time of apprehension, his blood alcohol concentration was at a license suspension level; immediately after being caught he denied drinking in a police interview, but is said to have recently admitted to drinking.
This is the second time Lee has been booked for drunk driving. In 2003, he also caused an accident while driving under the influence, was booked for refusing a breath test, and had his license revoked.
