Yangcheon District in Seoul announced on the 8th that it will hold the ‘15th Yangcheon Marathon Cherry Blossom Run’ on the 11th in the Anyangcheon area, with about 8,400 participants.
This race features a course that follows the cherry blossom path along Anyangcheon and the Han River waterfront, beginning at 7:50 a.m. at the Haemaru Soccer Field on Anyangcheon under Sinjeong Bridge. In particular, the event ambassador, ‘national marathoner Lee Bong-ju’, along with actor Kwon Hwa-woon and running YouTuber Runner Imba, among other guests, will join to energize the event.
The course will be run in four divisions: half, 10 km, 5 km, and a 5 km family run. Participants will receive a finisher medal, as well as souvenirs such as a T-shirt, running belt, and bag.
As the largest crowd to date is expected, the district will partially control the bicycle paths along the marathon section of Anyangcheon from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the day of the race to prevent accidents. The controlled sections are Guil Station ~ Haemaru Soccer Field ~ Sinjeong Submersible Bridge ~ the Anyangcheon confluence at Yeomchang Bridge ~ Gangseo Picnic Area, among others.
In addition, more than 300 staff members and volunteers will be deployed throughout the course to manage the site, and medical booths will be operated for emergency response.
Yangcheon District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “As this will be held on the largest scale ever, we will work closely with relevant agencies and do our utmost to manage the site until the last participant crosses the finish line.”
