U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance said on the 14th (local time) that President Donald Trump is seeking a ‘comprehensive agreement’ with Iran rather than a ‘small deal’.

At an event hosted by the conservative group ‘Turning Point USA’ in Georgia that day, Vice President Vance said, “When the president seeks to make a deal, he does not want a small one. He wants to forge a serious and comprehensive agreement (grand bargain).”

Vance led the U.S. delegation in the first face-to-face armistice talks with Iran, held last weekend through Pakistan’s mediation. He is expected to head the delegation again if talks resume.

Vance said, “What President Trump is essentially proposing to Iran is very simple,” adding, “If you (Iran) are willing to act like a normal country, we are willing to treat you economically like a normal country.”

Vance went on, “The reason a deal has not yet been reached is that the president truly wants an agreement under which Iran does not possess nuclear weapons,” adding, “He is saying, ‘If you pledge not to possess nuclear weapons, we will make it so that Iran prospers.’”

Vance said, “Of course, there is considerable distrust between Iran and the United States, and that problem cannot be solved overnight,” while adding, “The Iranian negotiating team wants an agreement, and I am very satisfied with the current situation.” He continued, “We will make Iran prosper economically if it gives up nuclear weapons, and we will invite the Iranian people into the global economy.”
