A police officer who was the real-life model for the protagonist of the film <Crime City> has been sent to trial on a drunk-driving charge.
According to the legal community on the 17th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office Criminal Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Shin Do-uk) indicted without detention Inspector A, who had been affiliated with the Seoul Suseo Police Station, on April 15 on a charge of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
At around 8:30 p.m. on November 24 last year, near Gangnam Severance Hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Inspector A drove a vehicle while intoxicated and caused a minor collision. According to the investigation, his blood alcohol concentration was 0.144%, exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%. There were reportedly no casualties from the accident.
In a police investigation, Inspector A reportedly acknowledged the allegation, stating to the effect, “I remember only from the point when I got out of the car after being completely drunk.” Inspector A was suspended from duty after the drunk-driving incident became known.
Released in 2017, the film <Crime City> depicted the heroic exploits of its protagonist Ma Seok-do, played by actor Ma Dong-seok. The first installment was a box-office success, and parts 2 through 4 each drew more than 10 million moviegoers. Ma Dong-seok, who starred in and produced the films, is said to have interviewed Inspector A while conceiving the project.
