Two foreigners who hunted pigeons with an air rifle they built themselves were apprehended by the police.

The Iksan Police Station in North Jeolla announced on the 29th that it had arrested two people, including A, a Thai national in his 30s, on suspicion of making an imitation firearm and hunting illegally (violation of the Act on the Safety Management of Firearms·Swords·Explosives, etc.).

A and the others are suspected of having hunted pigeons on the 16th of last month in a bamboo grove in Yongan-myeon, Iksan City, using an air rifle they made themselves.

During the police investigation, they reportedly stated to the effect that “they intended to hunt pigeons to eat.”

On the day of the incident, the police were dispatched after receiving a report that “gunshots could be heard.” At the scene, they found a vehicle abandoned as A and others fled, along with four mock air rifles, steel balls, and live rounds.

After canvassing and other searches, they arrested them on the 27th of last month and the 21st of this month at an apple farm in Cheongsong, North Gyeongsang, and at a farm in Buyeo, South Chungcheong, respectively.

Police confirmed that they were all in an unregistered stay status and handed them over to the immigration office.
