It has been confirmed that all crew members aboard a Korean vessel, which was at anchor in the Strait of Hormuz when an explosion occurred, are safe.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 5th, “It has been confirmed that none of the 24 crew members, including six Korean nationals who were aboard the HMM Namu, were harmed.”

The ministry said the shipboard fire had been extinguished and that no further damage occurred. However, it explained, “Because it is uncertain whether the vessel can operate normally, it will be towed to a nearby port to assess the damage and carry out repairs.”

The government is currently looking for a tug to tow the damaged vessel, and said that a specific towing schedule has not yet been set. It is also investigating the exact cause of the accident.
