President Lee Jae Myung spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on the 17th.

The Blue House said President Lee held a call with President Trump for about 30 minutes from 10 p.m. that day to hear the outcome of the U.S.-China summit, among other matters. According to the Blue House, as allies the two leaders shared the results of the U.S.-China summit during the call and had a sympathetic discussion on peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The Blue House also said the two leaders discussed the smooth implementation of the joint explanatory material (fact sheet) that summarized the outcomes of the South Korea-U.S. summit last November.

This was the first call between the two leaders since the U.S.-Iran war. The Blue House said the call between President Lee and President Trump took place at the request of the South Korean government. In a briefing, Blue House spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said, “There is a consensus that the two leaders should communicate.”

U.S. allies have been continuing leader-to-leader calls following the U.S.-China summit. On the 15th, immediately after the U.S.-China summit, President Trump spoke for about 15 minutes with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and shared the outcome of the visit to China.
