The identities of the five victims who died in the explosion at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon Plant in Oesam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, have been confirmed.

A dedicated investigation team of the Daejeon National Police Agency said on the 3rd that it had completed procedures to confirm the identities of the five people who died in the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon Plant fire incident.

At about 10:59 a.m. on the 1st, a fire caused by an explosion broke out in the cleaning workroom of Building 56 at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon Plant, killing five employees who were working.

The company said the victims were three regular employees in their 30s to 50s from the production team and two non-regular employees in their 20s who had joined only about three months earlier.

Because their bodies were damaged by the explosion and fire, exact identities were confirmed in two days through DNA analysis by the National Forensic Service.

With the identities confirmed, police plan to hand the bodies over to the bereaved families today. Once handed over, funeral altars for the victims are expected to be set up at the hospitals where the bodies are currently kept.
