Tving notice
Tving, a major domestic online video service (OTT) provider, said on the 3rd that it is “closely verifying the cause of the incident and the scope of its impact” in connection with the personal data leak that occurred the previous day.
Tving said that “on the 2nd we detected signs of unauthorized access to the DB where personal data are stored, immediately blocked the access, and are carrying out additional investigation and security measures,” adding, “We sincerely apologize for the concern caused by the security incident.”
According to Tving, the hacking the previous day resulted in the leak of information such as member IDs, names, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, email addresses, and refund account numbers. However, resident registration numbers and valid payment-related information are not stored separately and therefore were not leaked. Tving’s paying subscriber count is estimated to reach 5 million.
Tving said, “We are currently closely verifying the cause of the incident and the scope of its impact,” adding, “We are faithfully cooperating with notifications to and investigations by the relevant authorities.”
It continued, “We will take necessary measures, including strengthening security monitoring and access controls, to prevent further harm,” and said, “We will do our utmost to reinforce our security system and prepare measures to prevent a recurrence.”
Tving recommended changing passwords for any other services where the leaked password is used. It also plans to operate the ‘Special Customer Support Information Center’ to establish procedures for relief.
Tving plans to disclose the scale of the damage through an additional notice as soon as the internal investigation is completed.
