On the 3rd, the voting day for the 9th nationwide local elections, the Gyeongnam region also saw a series of 112 reports related to voting.

At around 11:40 a.m. that day, in front of a polling station in Jillye-myeon, Gimhae, a man in his 60s, intoxicated, caused a disturbance, saying “I should cause a scene today” and “The president showed his ballot, so I should do the same.” Police issued a warning at the scene, and the man finished voting and went home.

At around 9:08 a.m. at a polling station in Seongju-dong, Seongsan District, Changwon, a man in his 60s said he had marked his ballot incorrectly and asked for a new one, but when told it was not possible, he caused a disturbance, including tearing the ballot paper. He reportedly reattached the torn ballot, placed it in the ballot box, and went home. The election commission plans to file a complaint after reviewing whether to apply charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.

At around 11:12 a.m. at a polling station in Jinju, a man in his 60s caused a disturbance, using profanity while mentioning ‘rigged election’. When he refused a request to leave, he was arrested at the scene on suspicion of obstructing voting.

At around 10:24 a.m. at a polling station in Yangsan, a man in his 60s claimed he had received too few ballot papers and, while protesting, assaulted a polling station worker. Police booked the man on suspicion of assault and plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident.

The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency said that from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., there were a total of 19 112 reports related to voting in the province. By type, there were three cases of obstructing voting, two of assault, and fourteen others including simple inquiries.
