On the 3rd, a large number of citizens gathered in front of the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station, which was set up in a senior center within an apartment complex in Seoul, to protest the suspension of voting
On the 3rd, amid a move to block the removal of ballot boxes prompted by a suspension of voting due to a shortage of ballot papers, the crowd in front of the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station in Seoul continued to grow.
According to Kyunghyang Shinmun reporting, as of 12:00 a.m. on the 4th, about 300~400 people had gathered in front of the polling station. After conservative-leaning communities posted ‘gather here’ messages and pinned ‘coordinates,’ the crowd increased rapidly.
Some in the crowd are holding the Taegeukgi and the Stars and Stripes and shouting slogans such as “Election nullification” and “Stop the count.” They are also chanting for the impeachment of President Lee Jae Myung and hurling insults at the press, creating a scene resembling a far-right rally.
On the morning of the 4th, police cars and riot police buses were on standby on the roads around the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station
The National Election Commission is said to have requested police assistance after concerns were raised about possible clashes with the crowd in front of the polling station during the process of removing the ballot boxes. Police riot units, as well as fire engines and ambulances prepared for contingencies, are currently on standby around the polling station.
