On the 4th, regarding the 6·3 local elections, President Lee Jae Myung said, “Regardless of how the competition unfolded during the election process, both the ruling and opposition parties are partners who act on behalf of the sovereign people, must protect the livelihoods of the people, and should pioneer a better tomorrow for the nation,” and added, “Now that the election is over, I ask our political community to join forces to deliver tangible improvements in livelihoods, balanced regional development, and national unity, as mandated by the sovereign people.”

At the senior secretaries meeting he chaired at the Blue House that day, President Lee said, “The government will also humbly uphold the will of our people reflected in the local elections and will actively cooperate with the newly elected local governments regardless of party affiliation,” making these remarks. He emphasized, “We will bring together the hearts of all citizens and devote all our strength to progress in the lives of the people and the development of the Republic of Korea.”

President Lee said, “Starting today, the second year of the term of the government of popular sovereignty has begun,” and urged, “I ask all public officials to tighten their shoelaces once again and concentrate all-out efforts on doubling the pace of governance.”

President Lee also addressed the shortage of ballot papers, stating, “I express deep regret that a hard-to-accept shortcoming occurred in election administration, which above all must be thorough in a democratic republic,” and added, “All state institutions have a duty to make every preparation so that there is not the slightest gap in the process of exercising the sacred right to vote of the people.”

President Lee said, “Regrettably, it is said that residents in some parts of Seoul yesterday suffered significant confusion and inconvenience due to a shortage of ballot papers,” and continued, “The relevant agencies should use all the authority and responsibility the executive branch has to clarify precisely why the problem occurred, and if there is anything that must be held to account, responsibility should be clearly pursued.”

President Lee also said, “I ask that credible and appropriate measures be prepared promptly so that even the slightest infringement of the suffrage of the people never happens again.”
