Cho Kuk, the Cho Kuk Innovation Party candidate who ran in the National Assembly by-election for Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek-eul and was defeated, said, “The top priority of this election was the realization of People Power Party zero, but it was not accomplished in Pyeongtaek.”
At about 2:50 a.m. that day, the candidate visited his campaign office in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and said, “I humbly accept the election result.”
The candidate said, “The top priority of this June election was the realization of People Power Party zero,” and “There were meaningful results nationwide, but in Pyeongtaek we did not carry out that mandate.”
He said, “You embraced me as a warm neighbor, but I did not meet your expectations,” and “This result is my failure, Cho Kuk, not that the vision and values you projected onto me were wrong.”
He also said, “Even so, we must keep flowing together, without tiring, toward the sea called ‘the success of a citizen-sovereign government’.”
In Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek-eul, where the National Assembly by-election was held, People Power Party candidate Yoo Eui-dong was confirmed elected. As of 8:30 a.m. that day, Yoo had 34.83% of the vote, ahead of Democratic Party of Korea candidate Kim Yong-nam (28.77%). Cho recorded 27.24%, placing third.
At the same time, the vote count rate in Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek-eul was 99.88%.
