IBM has introduced in Korea for the first time its enterprise AI-based development partner "IBM Bob," which not only handles coding but also orchestrates the entire software development process.
On the 4th, IBM Korea held a press briefing at its Yeouido IFC office and explained IBM Bob, which goes beyond AI-powered code generation to understand system environments and context, supporting developers across the software development life cycle (SDLC).
Michael Kwok, Vice President of IBM Bob Solutions, who visited Korea, said, "AI has increased individual developers' productivity, but in actual enterprise environments, factors such as system complexity, security, and operations have often kept it from translating into overall development outcomes," adding, "IBM Bob is a solution designed to optimize software development at the organizational level rather than individual tasks."
In fact, after more than 100,000 IBM employees used it internally, development productivity improved by an average of 45%, and application modernization accelerated by up to 93%. Documentation tasks became more than ten times faster than before, and repetitive work decreased significantly.
IBM emphasized in particular that IBM Bob has strong security capabilities and will help companies reduce costs as their use of AI increases. Jay Talekar, IBM Bob's chief technical fellow, said that the AI model is selected based on task complexity, explaining, "It analyzes infrastructure resource consumption and cost signals in real time to choose the optimal model." Lee Ji-eun, CTO of IBM Korea, also cited cost optimization as a strength, stating, "From day one of designing Bob, the most important consideration for IBM was security."
