Samsung Electronics has decided that for the next month, all customers will receive Onnuri gift certificates worth 20% of their purchase amount. The intent is to share with the public the results achieved amid a super-boom in semiconductors.
On the 5th, Samsung Electronics said, “Starting on the 8th, for four weeks, we will hold the ‘With the People, Samsung Electronics Thank-You Festival’,” adding that “because the achievements in semiconductors and other areas were made possible by the public’s support and encouragement, this is our way of giving back.”
Accordingly, all customers who purchase Samsung Electronics products will receive Onnuri gift certificates equal to 20% of the purchase amount. As a special expression of gratitude, uniformed public officials such as soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and correctional officers will receive an additional 10%, for a total benefit of 30%. This also applies to active-duty members of the armed forces currently fulfilling mandatory military service.
During the event period, the total expected amount of Onnuri gift certificates to be distributed by Samsung Electronics is 400 billion won. The company said that, to invigorate local economies, it chose to provide Onnuri gift certificates (which can be used in traditional markets and neighborhood shopping districts) instead of discounting products.
This event follows the recent conclusion of bonus negotiations between Samsung Electronics management and labor, in which they pledged to ‘contribute 5 trillion won to society over five years’. Samsung Electronics promised a 5 trillion won contribution to promote co-prosperity with partner companies and to foster future talent. The company is currently reviewing additional social contribution measures, in consultation with the board of directors and the Compliance Committee, so that business performance can translate into expanded social contributions.
A Samsung Electronics official said, “We will continue fundamental reflection on what role a company should play in our society, keeping in mind the public’s expectations and standards, and we will faithfully carry out our responsibilities and roles as a company that grows together with society.”
