Amid continued criticism of the election commission over the shortage of ballot papers in the June 3 local elections, a video of an employee practicing a golf swing inside an election commission building in Daegu has spread on social media, drawing public outrage.

According to the Daegu City Election Commission on the 12th, it was determined that on the 10th, on the fourth-floor staircase of the Daegu Jung-gu Election Commission building, employee A practiced swinging a golf club.

At the time, A was filmed from outside the building, and the footage spread via SNS and other channels. The video shows a man inside the building repeatedly making motions as if swinging a golf club. While recording, the person filming also said, “Wow, seriously, post this. This cannot be forgiven.”

After the video was released, online commenters poured out criticisms such as, “Is practicing golf appropriate at a time like this?” “They seem unaware of the seriousness of the situation,” and “Is the election commission out of touch with the public?”

The Daegu City Election Commission stated that it has not been clearly confirmed whether the time when A practiced golf was during working hours. A was reported to have explained to the commission, “I practiced my golf swing during the lunch break.”

The Daegu City Election Commission plans to investigate the exact circumstances and then refer A to a disciplinary committee.

Earlier, in the June 3 local elections, some polling stations ran short of ballot papers, leading voters to wait in line. Subsequent controversies over ballot counting and tallying errors and inadequate responses have further intensified the criticism.
