Commissioner Kim Seung-ryong of the National Fire Agency, who has been under a Presidential Office inspection, will step down three months after taking office.
According to the National Fire Agency on the 12th, Commissioner Kim has been dismissed effective the 15th.
The Presidential Office launched an inspection into Commissioner Kim on the 22nd of last month. The inspection is reportedly over allegations of personal misconduct.
After former Commissioner Heo Seok-gon was relieved of his duties over allegations of involvement in the Dec. 3 martial law, Kim served as acting commissioner of the National Fire Agency starting last September.
He was formally appointed on March 18, but is stepping down after just three months.
On the same day, the National Fire Agency promoted Choi Yong-cheol, acting head of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, to deputy commissioner effective the 15th.
Choi, the new deputy commissioner, is from Boeun in North Chungcheong Province and joined the service in 1999 as a member of the 10th class of fire officer candidates. He has served as chief of Uiwang Fire Station in Gyeonggi, chief of Gwangju Fire Station in Gyeonggi, head of the Sejong Fire Headquarters, director of response coordination at the National Fire Agency, acting principal of the Central Fire Academy, and head of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters.
