Seocho District in Seoul announced on the 6th that the Seocho Symphony Orchestra, a resident arts organization of the Seocho Cultural Foundation, will hold the final concert of the ‘Complete Haydn Symphonies Performance Series’ on the 9th, bringing a seven-year journey to a close.

The Complete Haydn Symphonies Performance Series is a long-term project that has been underway since 2020 with the goal of performing all 107 symphonies by Joseph Haydn, the ‘Father of the Symphony’.

Seocho District said, “It is the first case in the nation, and one that is difficult to find worldwide, in which a single orchestra has performed the complete symphonies of a single composer at a single venue,” adding, “We plan to seek a Guinness World Records listing.”

District Mayor Jeon Sung-Su is scheduled to present a plaque of appreciation to Bae Jong-Hoon, principal conductor of the Seocho Symphony Orchestra, at the final concert to be held on the 9th at the Simsan Memorial Culture Center Banpo Simsan Art Hall, to commemorate completing the full cycle. The Seocho Cultural Foundation will present plaques of appreciation to the five most frequent attendees and produce an archival video capturing the seven-year journey.

Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the Seocho Symphony Orchestra has continued various planned performances, including local cultural events such as the Seoripul Music Festival. In April in Cannes, France, it also presented a stage that combined AI and classical music at the ‘World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Film Festival’.

Mayor Jeon said, “We will continue to provide support so that residents can enjoy refined culture and the arts in their daily lives through classical performances.”
