A fire broke out at a resource-circulation facility that handles·recycles waste, leaving one migrant worker in his 20s dead.
According to the North Gyeongsang Provincial Fire Headquarters, at around 1:54 p.m. on the 6th, a report was received from a resource-circulation facility in Gupo-dong, Gumi that “Smoke is coming out along with an explosion sound”.
Responding fire authorities discovered migrant worker A, in his 20s, collapsed inside a chemical storage tank at the facility. A was in cardiac arrest at the time and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The fire was fully extinguished at around 4:31 p.m., about 2 hours and 40 minutes after it started. It was determined that no hazardous chemicals were released outside due to the fire.
Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion and fire and the exact circumstances of the accident based on witness statements.
