The Office of National Security convened an emergency security situation review meeting on the 6th, summoning relevant agencies including the Ministry of National Defense·the Joint Chiefs of Staff, after North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile from the Wonsan area into the East Sea.

The Office of National Security stated that “at the meeting, it ordered the maintenance of an immediate readiness posture, analyzed and assessed the impact of this launch on our security, and reviewed necessary measures.”

The Office of National Security urged an immediate halt, saying that “North Korea’s ballistic missile launch is a provocative act that violates United Nations Security Council resolutions.”

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected around 5 p.m. that day a short-range ballistic missile launched from the Wonsan area toward the East Sea.

The JCS stated that “it has strengthened surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches by North Korea,” and that “South Korea·the United States·Japan are closely sharing information related to the ‘North Korean ballistic missile’ while maintaining a fully prepared posture.”
