"We Will Save This Film" Celebrities Make "Another Promise"
By Ha Gyeong-heon
Celebrities are leading the way to support Another Promise, a film which released on February 6. They've donated their money to buy tens to hundreds of tickets for the film and then handed these tickets out to the public, inviting them to these "private screenings" to support the film. As news spread that the film had trouble finding screens, celebrities led the way in creating a new way of screening the film. There had been similar cases with independent films in the past, but a celebrity hosting a private screening of a commercial film already in theaters is rare.

The entertainers CulTwo (Jeong Chan-woo and Kim Tae-gyun) will rent a screen for a private screening of the film for the first 120 people who reserve seats at CGV in Sangam, Seoul at 6:30 p.m. on February 11. They promised to rent a screen and show the film during an episode of their radio show, the CulTwo Show on January 28. They were moved after hearing the story of the film's star Park Chol-min, who appeared as a guest on their show and talked about how the film was made with the donations by individuals from all walks of life. They plan to personally appear on stage and greet the audience on February 11.

Lee Geung-young, who played Gim Gyo-ik, a manager loyal to Jinseong Semiconductor in the film, also invited 50 people to CGV Ilsan in Goyangi-si, Gyeonggi Province near his home on the afternoon of February 10 and watched the film together. Earlier on February 6, the actor Jo Dal-hwan bought 300 tickets at CGV Gangbyeon in Guui-dong, Seoul and invited the public to watch the film.

Jang So-jung, the head of Dorothy, the firm promoting the film Another Promise said, "Jo Dal-hwan attended the VIP premiere at Lotte Cinema near the Konkuk University subway station on January 8. I heard he was deeply moved and cried a lot. From what I know, he decided to rent a screen for the public hoping to share the experience with more viewers."

The celebrities who have hosted these private screenings all have a special connection with Another Promise. Jo Dal-hwan shot Pirates: The Bandits Who Went to Sea, scheduled to be released later this year with Park Chol-min, the star of Another Promise and the two have been close friends. Jeong Chan-woo, a member of CulTwo has also maintained a long friendship with Park Chol-min. Lee Geung-young who received no guarantees for his performance in this film said that he would host a private screening as an expression of his gratitude toward the audience.

One person from OAL, the distributor of Another Promise said, "The film collected the total production costs of 1.5 billion won from citizens through a production cooperative, and now businessmen are voluntarily holding events where they exchange tickets and products through social network services in addition to the private screenings held by celebrities." He added, "The public's response to this film is firing up. For instance, a Daegu citizen held a one-man demonstration demanding more screens for the film." The film is currently being screened in 190 theaters nationwide and by February 9 more than 170,000 viewers had watched the film.
